Art Basel Miami 2014 Shadow Art:
“Water Flows Freely”

A Shadow Art Exhibit to fit the theme of Everglades and Freedom entitled “Water Flows Freely”.

A 25 feet-long by 5 feet-high pile of strategically placed trash, that when lit, will create a shadow of an Everglades Landscape.
The Landscape Shadow is 55 feet-long by 35 feet-high.

All the trash was collected within 1 mile of the exhibit location.
The shadow creates a landscape scene beginning with (from left to right) sawgrass, a man paddling in a canoe to a tiki hut, fish swimming, showing the city blocking water flow to the ocean waves.

The details of the exhibit:

– when you look at the fish, notice the shadow-on-shadow effect to distinguish water from air
– the trash bucket is cut in half to create the windows in city buildings
– the man in canoe is created with 5 shadow overlays
– it took a 8 days to create the exhibit on location
– every item is screwed and positioned to be exactly in place
– all trash was found within 1 mile of the installation location

(Note: Each item is screwed and positioned exactly. It’s not a pile of trash that would attract roaches.
